Web Designers Are Still Vital [RANT]

Written by Brady Curtright on . Posted in Website & Creative

under_constructionI read an article in Smashing Magazine about the future of Web designers, and it doesn't seem too hopeful. What?! There will always be a need for Web designers. Even if apps like SkyGrid suck content from websites for information doesn't mean nobody will ever go to your website. And, sure, templates are being used more and more, but nothing will ever replace personalization.

The thing with apps and sites like Facebook is that they are designed to extract content from other sites for you so you never have to leave their platforms. I'm all for progress, but the idea of Web designers becoming obsolete anytime soon is ridiculous, especially for businesses that want or need an online content.

True, these days, anyone can throw up a website. But only a skilled graphic designer is able to create a site that is welcoming to potential customers, easy to navigate (you only have 18 seconds in which to convince a user to further investigate your site after first arriving), and become a vibrant revenue source.
